The Great Unfurling [flag-raising ceremony], RWA, Bristol, 29th March 2015

Musician, theatre-maker & sound designer Sam Halmarack devised a performative audio piece for the event. Each flag pole was wired to a circuit board 'makey-makey kit', triggering the flag's individual sound identity when touched. As they were raised the circuit & composition were complete. On theme tea & cake were provided for the occasion and it also happened to be one of the rainiest windiest days of the 2015!

Coinciding with the biennial exhibition Drawn. Leading up to the event, as artist-in-residence in the Drawing Lab, I designed and made a new triptych of flags [Vexillum II]. For two months they replaced the usual RWA insignia (Union Jack, St. George's Cross & RWA logo).

I revisited the flags at the end of the two months and made some further drawings.

Special thanks to Parish Sound System for powering this event and the flag-bearers: Iris Hable, Elise Briccolani & Karina Banks.
